Shruti Sharma’s Success
Shruti had always aspired to join the Indian Administrative Service and serve the country. She failed the Civil Services exam on her first attempt, though. Shruti Sharma IAS said –
” This is my second attempt. Due to some issues with the medium of instruction, I had to take my Mains examination in Hindi. I missed my interview call by one mark. “
Shruti had one failure, but she learned from it, and on her second attempt, she was successful in getting AIR 1 in the UPSC 2021. She claimed that while she was certain that she would pass the exam, was surprised when she found out that she had topped it. She secured 932 marks in mains and secured 173 marks in the personality test. Her total written marks was 932 in the UPSC mains.
I believe I have had a certain privileged background, therefore, I always wanted to do something in which I could give back to society in some way…Secondly, I believe that on a personal level the diversity and the scope that these services provide can be an avenue for great personal growth and an avenue for learning a lot.” she said

Shruti Sharma IAS Preparation Strategies
As a UPSC candidate, Shruti Sharma has experienced a totally different journey. She disregarded advice that was given to her by others. Instead, she adhered to the methods and approaches that suited her timetable and her UPSC exam preparation.
She started her preparation for the UPSC examination four years ago by studying NCERT.
Shruti prepares for current affairs with a strong emphasis on news, paying close attention to both national and international events. She also finds that routinely reading newspapers helps in her UPSC preparation.
In to help her preparation, she also took a couple online tests. Additionally, it improves her chances of learning what kinds of questions she would encounter before to the test.
Her prepared notes greatly helped her in quickly and simply reviewing extensive subjects.
Her primary focus was on the Mains exam writing question papers. She also used the internet to clarify her ideas and to get support.
Shruti Sharma UPSC also says that knowing which subject to select for the UPSC mains exam’s as an optional paper is crucial. For the reason that the two optional papers are worth 500 marks. She chose history as an optional subject in the UPSC mains examination. Shruti Sharma IAS said-
“My strategy was to focus on my own notes with emphasis on answer-writing practice for the Mains Exam. I was happy with my performance in the exam and was hopeful of a good result but topping the merit list did come as a surprise.”
She said, secret to success was to be patient.
Shruti concentrated on the quality of her education rather than the quantity of study hours she put in.
She created a study plan but restricted her revising sources to a minimum. She didn’t look for fresh reading material or study guides.
Her advice is to go through the previous year’s UPSC Prelims and mains question papers. . ln order to get a feel of the type of questions that would be asked in the UPSC CSE exams.
